John McFadden

Owner/DVM

Dr. John McFadden’s roots run deep in Charleston, where he has watched his hometown evolve over the past few decades. Following his graduation from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, in January 2018, Dr. McFadden pursued a career in emergency veterinary medicine. His path led him through clinical rotations and post-graduate training in the Emergency and Critical Care department at Louisiana State University, after which he furthered his education through an internship in Small Animal Medicine & Surgery at VCA Alameda East in Denver, CO.

After returning to Charleston, Dr. McFadden worked full-time emergency for several years before providing relief services for general practices. On the job, he has always preferred to manage acute care cases, particularly those involving intoxications, allergic reactions, and traumatic injuries.

Off duty, Dr. McFadden enjoys the outdoors, spending most free time on the waterways he grew up on going fishing, sailing, and surfing.

Johni

Veterinary Technician

Johni’s extensive experience in veterinary medicine reflects her diverse skill set and deep commitment to animal care. Her love for animals began in childhood in Florida, where she helped to care for her family’s farm animals. In 2000, she moved to Virginia Beach and joined a small animal emergency room and referral center. There, she developed a keen interest in Internal Medicine and Oncology, eventually advancing to the role of lead veterinary assistant.

In 2006, Johni relocated to Charleston and dedicated 11 years to general practice veterinary clinics. Although she valued this experience, she missed the excitement of ER medicine and returned to it in 2017. Her passion for fast-paced environments led her to Charleston Veterinary Urgent Care when it opened in 2024.

Johni brings a wealth of experience to the field of veterinary care, including positions in reception, surgery, general practice, and practice management. Her special interests span dentistry, dermatology, hospice care, I-131 radiation therapy, and preventive medicine.

Outside of work, Johni enjoys traveling, hiking, attending music festivals, and spending time with her French bulldog and Siamese cat.
